Designed as a community of 10 houses, The Ridge explores a new community paradigm that overcomes the limitations that typical rural development house designs present by putting their back and garage to the street. The proposed houses present themselves with inviting openness, visual connection to the street, front porches and active front yards in order to create active outdoor spaces and interfaces to form a vibrant community.
All house are designed to be off-site prefabricated and shipped to the site to create fast lock-ups. This allows for quick construction that is more seasonally independent. The layout and dimensionality of the building components complies with the requirements for both panelization and modularization, and shipping requirements on BC roads. The interiors of the lock up shells can be finished on site by local contractors to create a practical procurement process.
The structural systems is design with the use of mass timber panels, either CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) or NLT (Nail Laminated Timber). The material allows for high quality and precision prefabrication, presenting superb quality and airtightness that is cost effective. The material can be fully machined and prefabricated, and it is proposed to be showcased, left unfinished, on the interior ceilings and most walls, saving time and money, while presenting a beautiful, warm new sustainable and quality paradigm of construction.
